Open de Espana

Richard Sterne - after finishing 3rd last week at the Dunhill Links I was seriously shocked to see odds of 200/1 + for this week when prices came out on Monday. He appears to be playing injury free for the first time in many years and is in really good form and could well be inspired by a return to Club de Campo the scene of his maiden European tour win in 2004. I've backed another South African - Zander Lombard in a specific way - now it won't have escaped anyone's attention that he has course form that reads 7/56/4/2 but also that in over 300 pro starts he has just the one win - a three rounder Vodacom Origins event in 2018. I have backed him as a "back to lay" @ 230 on Betfair - he has traded @ 19 and 6 in two of his close run efforts so there is a possibility of "ten folding" my stake. Also done him 25/1 ew top ROW and got some 16/1 top 10 which seems more than fair.

Baycurrent Classic I put up Keita Nakajima on Monday @ 70/80 largely on the basis that unlike most of this weeks Japanese players he has been competing on a bigger stage and the last time he played this course at home he won in 2023. He has many wins on home soil and think he could be competitive at this level. I have added a second home player with the young future star Taiga Semikawa but mainly in the form of a FRL bet @ 80/1. He is in top form in Japan of late and in 2023 he closed with a 66 here to finish 2nd and then last year opened with a 65 - a repeat of either of those would see him close to the top of the leaderboard after day one.

Champions - SAS Championship In my opinion it's time to start backing Angel Cabrera again to add to his three wins on tour earlier this year in Florida, Alabama and Maryland. The more geographically astute of you will realise that these results all are on the Eastern side of the United States, think also Georgia and the US Masters. Looking back through his career Stateside he has never performed very well away from this side - call it grass type or climate it's pretty clear. So this week we are in North Carolina - on his debut last year he shot 71/69/67 to finish 4th - hopefully that progression will continue - I've backed him @ 25/1 but 22/1 is fine.

The tour remains in South America for one of the oldest national Opens in the World having first been played in 1905 and the winner will get an invite to the Open in the Summer - so a little bit extra

An event that starts Friday so still plenty of time to get your bets on, it interests me a lot as a betting proposition because the top four players are taking out 50% of the market and I don't think
