A rare decent foray into the golf betting world with a note of caution - this year has been awful but sometimes I still spot something I really like - this week it's the turn of the Womens British Open and the player in question is Celine Boutier - so here's a brief explanation of how my mind works (or maybe doesn't). First port of call was the 2012 Ladies' Amateur held here @ Carnoustie and Boutier was the strokeplay co-medalist finishing on -3 and five shots clear of anyone else. Admittedly she lost in the second round of the matchplay section at the first extra hole to Georgia Hall but had hammered Leona Maguire in the first round. She showed her fondness and ability on the Links when taking the title three years later @ Portstewart which led to her being number one amateur in the world. She turned pro in 2017 and won twice on the Symetra tour and then twice on the Ladies European Tour in China and Australia. She jumped to the next level when winning the co-sanctioned LPGA event in 2019 @ 13th Beach which can only be described as a Links course. She has been knocking on the door in a few Majors the past two years with a 5th in this event and a 6th and 7th in the US Majors and maybe this is the week and the right course to step up and contend. She seems right at home in Scotland - she went 4-0 in the Solheim Cup in 2019 and warmed up with a solid 7th on the Scottish Links last week. I will only bet on golf these days when I can tick an awful lot of boxes and Boutier does that this week - have backed her 60/66 ew and 60 average win on Betfair.
