Tim Clark
We seriously expect that Clark (if he puts in a couple of decent performances in the next few weeks) could go off at 1/2 these odds. This years USPGA could play more like a US Open and in the last 2 Clark has been 13th and 3rd. Throw in the fact that he was 3rd in the US PGA in 2003 and recently won the prestigious Scottish Open then we think you will agree anything over 66/1 is worth a decent bet.

Mark Hensby
At the time of posting this tip Hensby was playing well in Scandinavia - he has since clinched the title in a play-off.He is certainly developing into the top Australian player (perhaps Adam Scott should watch his back!) in the world after posting top 5's in each of the 2 US Majors so far this year - lets hope he can make it 3!If any book goes 100/1 he is still worth a decent bet.

Olympic have quoted the top players and given a price for the field and whilst the chances are that one of the quoted will win it the odds are plainly wrong - you are basically getting nearly 4/1 about an Even money shot

We cannot leave this tournament alone without backing Woody who has a win and 2 top 4's on this course. This is his time of year and he seems to like Buick sponsored events - his win last year came in one as well!

Blue Square certainly have some tempting prices on a lot of players but we will pick out one player who has been in rock solid form of late having only finished outside the top 15 in 1 of her last 9 starts.Throw in her last 2 performances on links Opens of 10th and 4th and we have a promising bet

Bob Tway
Not a player who sets the world alight but solid nonetheless with a top 10 on his penultimate start and a 3rd at the Byron Nelson. The key is his course form which is absolutely rock solid and at these generous odds he is hard to resist.

Sophie Gustafson
Our main bet of the week is reserved for the Ladies and we feel it best to nick an early price as we cannot see this being bettered. This years event returns to Birkdale where Sophie won in 2000 and overall her record in British Opens on links courses is bettered by none as she can add a 2nd,8th and 11th to that win.Whilst her recent form has not been top notch it has given us the chance to bet this links specialist at rewarding odds.

Mediate seems to have found some good health and along with it some decent form.He has made his last 4 cuts (for the first time in 2 years) and they have included a 6th place at the US Open and a 14th at the weekend. With his good course form including a win here he could well enter calculations at rewarding odds.

Couldn't resist having a small bet on Short as he ticks a lot of boxes this week. He leads the par 3 performance stats on the Nationwide tour (and would be 7th on the main tour), he fired a 66 in the 1st round here last year and closed with a 68 and 2 weeks ago he finished 4th in the John Deere - his best ever finish.

Have been waiting all week for a 66/1 quote - but no such luck and really do not want to leave him out.He has made his last 7 cuts, has been in the top 7 for GIR in 4 of his last 5 events and was 2nd here in 2003 - enough said.

The young Irishman is a prodigious talent and should be winning again soon after a fine performance in the British open and a bizarre one at the K club! He was 5th here back in 2003 and is clearly a much better player now.

Craig Bowden
Par 3 performance stats often hold the key to this event with its 5 par 3's and Bowden is an excellent exponent at this. He topped the par 3 stats on the Nationwide tour in 2003, and is 3rd this year (he would actually qualify in 10th place on the PGA tour had he played enough rounds). He finished in the top 20 here last year after a fine opening round of 65 and he was 13th in the John Deere after starting the final round in 2nd.

Brendan Jones
A pick based purely on price and Jones' ability to maintain a good run of form when he hits one. The fact that he finished 2nd at the weekend should not deter us backing him this week, indeed last year on the Nationwide and Japanese tours he finished 2nd in Feb and followed that with 2/46/1/4 and then in May a 2nd place finish sparked a run of 4/1/mc/1 - the m/c was in the US Open!

The young talented player has finally taken off his party boots and put on his golfing shoes. He won earlier this season and in his last 7 starts has 2 top 5 finishes in the Irish and Scottish Opens. These odds seem on the generous side despite the strength of the field.

New York in July certainly seems to bring out the best in the Mexican - arguably his best form in a PGA event is here with finishes of 2/23/18/21 - the 2nd place still remains his best tour finish.Add to this that on the Nationwide Tour he won this month - yep you guessed it in New York! and he followed that up with a 13th in the John Deere last week - his best finish for 2 years.

Peter Hanson
Hanson is turning into one of the better European players - he followed up his 2 top 4 performances in the Scandinavian and Volvo Masters last year with his first win in Spain and recent top 5's in 2 top Euro tour events. His strength of his game in recent months is his ability to hit GIR and this could be a key stat at St Andrews. These odds are way out of line and the 600 on Betfair on the win should provide a good trading opportunity.

The big hitter has only played in 8 Senior events since turning 50 in April and has taken time to find his feet, but recently he has finished 5th and 3rd after achieving some good GIR stats. He will certainly be up for this Major as he would dearly love to win in front of his home crowd.

Scottish Open - top 10 finish
Steven O'Hara
The young Scot made his professional debut on this course in 2001 and it will hold fond memories. On his second visit last year he played very well after a poor opening round to finish 23rd, his other good finish last year was a 3rd place in the Scottish PGA. In his last 10 starts he has amassed no fewer than 4 top 10 finishes (albeit in weaker fields) so the odds seem on the generous side.

Charles Warren
We have been waiting for Warren to show a return to form as we believe he could win a PGA event, he finally showed it after 6 missed cuts with a 7th place in last weeks stronger event, and he is capable of good back to back results as he won in consecutive events on the Nationwide tour last year..The John Deere demands a solid all round game which Warren can show on a good week - last week he was top 10 in DA, GIR and Putting. The fact he has not played here before should not be a hinderance - none of the 5 course winners had played before, and there have been 15 first time winners of the event from 32 stagings.

Jean showed a welcome return to form in the French Open - losing in a play-off to fellow countryman Remesy and considering that finish is playing OK this week. He will certainly not have far to travel compared to those who take an overnight flight from the US to tee it up on Monday! Also he did play the last event in 2000 when he finished t5th so does have some course experience to speak of.
