Stephen Ames |
Ames probably cannot wait to get started this season having won the final event of the main tour last season and then winning the Skins event. He has a good overall record in Hawaii and often plays well on his seasonal debut. He has played twice here before improving each time from 19th to 11th and leading after rd 1 on his last appearance. |

An initial play purely on the price - with some of the big names missing we really don't think last years winners who are turning up are a vintage crop and we cannot see how a player who won twice on tour last season can be such a bi price. In his 2 appearances here so far he has hardly set the place on fire but we simply cannot pass at 80/1 |

Well we all know how close Fisher came to winning the HSBC event in China and we really do think he is a young player who will be challenging for events time and time again in the year ahead and this price is worth taking for the year long event |

South African Mulroy had to qualify for his home open shooting -5 he then survived a 3 man play-off for the last spot. It doesn't sound that impressive and Centrebet have rather dismissed his chances with this generous quote and they seem to have overlooked his recent form on the Nationwide Tour where he has made 17 of his last 19 cuts including 3 top 5 finishes and finished the Tour Championship in 8th closing with a pair of 65's .If he can continue his good form back home he could be a contender this week. |

Lile is a really difficult player to weigh up this week as he hasn't played in his homeland for nearly 4 years as he has been concentrating playing in the States with a certain degree of success on the lower Nationwide tour.At the end of the day we think he is overpriced purely on the basis that he has made his last 10 straight cuts on the PGA tour and there are not many in this event who could do that. |

The Frenchman was our main pick for the Q school where he came agonisingly close to a place pay out but proved he has been in superb form at a lower level of late. After a poor opening round last week of 77 he stormed through the field and finally finished 9th which was pretty impressive considering his form in South Africa before. He will certainly not be at a disadvantage this week on a course where no-one has any course experience so is worth a punt at this price. |

Guay beat the field very comfortably in todays second training run for the Downhill which takes place on Saturday.
Two years ago here Guay was 2nd in the Super G and 3rd in the Downhill so he obviously likes the hill. He finally broke his duck last season in a World Cup Downhill and it would be no surprise to see him break the duck in this discipline where he is just as good to be honest |

Brewerton burst on to the stage a few years ago when playing superbly as an amateur nearly winning events. That nearly theme continued until this season when she finally won the English Open. She has a 20% top 5 strike rate and was 13th in India last week after a poor opening round and was a solid 10th here in Dubai last season improving with every round. |

If you thought we wre annoyed with Sim the week after we backed him then we were equally annoyed with Bowditch when he was so close to winning in New Zealand after we managed to get about £500 ew riding on him for charity the week before.Anyway enough of the past - Bowditch returns to the Australian where he was 3rd in 04 and he has been 7th in 2 other Australian Opens including his first one. With a 14% top 5 strike rate (25% top 10) in his homeland we have to go in at this price |

Coles has a fantastic record in recent Australian Opens finishing 5/8/3 in his last 3 appearances (the 8th being here) He has lost his card yet again on the PGA tour but his short accurate game always seems to stand him in good stead at home.He is certainly capable of winning events as he has done twice on the Australian tour in the last 5 years. |

We will stick with McGowan who gave us a really good return last week and we expected his price to be a lot lower this week.Last week he actually got really close to the lead and he struggled on the back 9 but he can only learn from this and again he won twice on the Challenge Tour like Luiten so we will go in again. |

Luiten is a huge young talent who will be winning on the main tour in the next year or two and we might as well go for him this week when he is clearly in form as shown by his fast finishing 4th placed finish last week.He won twice on the Challenge Tour last season and even managed a runner-up slot on the main tour in his homeland. He clearly showed last week he likes golf in South Africa as he also won the World Amateur team champs in the country. |

Bland is another in a long line of talented young Aussies who won the Von Nida order of merit in 05 and this year has won twice on the Canadian Tour - OK these are small events but he has been learning his trade and since returning home this year he has improved every week going 30/12/6. This week sees another big step up but we think he could be ready for it. |

To say we were slightly miffed when Sim finished 3rd last week having been a big bet the week before would be an understatement with 2 rounds of 65 he has shown he really does have the talent and maybe NZ was just a quirky course he couldn't cope with. That means he has now finished 3rd and 2nd on his last 2 starts on home soil and we won't be missing out again. |

Not the sort of player we would normally go for as he misses loads of cuts but the former Australian amateur champion has fond memories of this course where he was 5th in 2004 (the last time it was used) He has struggled to find a home around the world to play but as he was 8th at this years Aussie Masters and 6th at last years he can certainly play and this price could prove generous |

McGowan is a huge talent and we will be hearing a lot of him in the future and we really think 3 figure prices about him will be unheard of. In his first season as a pro last year on the Challenge Tour he won twice (including the same event that last years winner won) along with 2 runner-up slots - and on courses showing he can handle playing at altitude. He started his pro career in South Africa last season with 4 starts and to be honest performed with credit so he is a big play this week. |

The second of our young guns is Chilean Tullo who claims to love playing in Argentina and well he might as he was 4th here in 04 beating the 5th placed player by 7 shots! He led this event last season just a few weeks after securing his maiden pro win in Brazil. He struggled a little bit in Europe this summer on the Challenge Tour although he managed a 7th in Germany and last week in Argentina opened with a brilliant 66. |

A couple of small plays on young talented South American players. Firstly Argentinian Saavedra who has been 4th and 6th in recent events in his homeland and was 2nd and 1st back in May in Venezuala so he is clearly capable of upsetting the big guns (something that happened last week). He also has some valuable course experience from when this event was played at this course in 2004 and he finished 11th as an amateur. |

We left him out last week and after 3 rounds we were beginning to worry that we may have given up too early on him but he did fade in the final round in New Zealand. However it is all a learning experience for the young player who has the talent to succeed and we will go again at this price on a course where he had an excellent 1st round last season when he was 3rd - again he faded but we really do think he can win in his home country. |

We will make it 2 Englishmen this week in South Africa with another talented youngster in Wilson. Whilst he might not have shown the meteoric rise we expect of McGowan he has staedily improved on the tour with 3 top 5 finishes - including 2 runner-up slots last year. He has played at Leopard Creek twice in the last 3 years and has started well before fading both times and now he is a far better player. |

The gulf in class between the top players in Australia and the second rate ones is vast and there are few players who can bridge the gap but we will take a chance with Jeffress who has shown of late that he may be ready to step up to the big time. With an 8th and a 4th in the last 2 starts on the "Aussie Swing" he is obviously in good heart. He played really well for 2 rounds here last year so clearly is capable of handling the course and this price is just a bit on the big side. |

Yup - here we go - its Baby Walrus time again! He did us another favour in the HSBC the other week when 4th and to be honest he could easily have made the playoff if he knew what was going to happen with the leaders. Now he returns to Australia where he has won before and he does have some course experience finishing 24th last year with an excellent final round 66 so he should have fond memories on his return. |
