Dubai Classic
Paul McGinley
McGinleys' record when playing in the desert is extremely good - whether it be in Dubai or Qatar, culminating in a 2nd place finish here last year. He has had a quiet start to this season only playing twice with a tio 30 in the US followed by a 4th place in Malaysia - he is bound to go off shorter.

Mark Calcavecchia
How Calc will react to his playoff loss yesterday is anyones guess but he fits the identikit of a winner round here - top 10 last year and an older Florida resident. He really is in solid form this year and this price to us is much bigger than it should be.

Simply a play on the price - Worcester should be closer to 1/2 in our opinion * - indeed the last price to be matched on Betfair was 4/9!

Carin Koch
Koch eneded last season in impressive form with finishes of 2/7/3 on the LPGA tour. Her top 5 finish ratio over the last 3 years is 15% so the odds available on her placing are very good as they are arrived at from her poor wins ratio - only one LPGA event

Chris Smith
Smiths' course form is fairly solid over the last 3 years with finishes of 6/13/27. He is a classic case of a long driver who simply cannot putt - however this year has shown some signs that his putting has improved and in this weak field he is worth giving a sporting chance.

An unusual selection - Allen has never really done much over the years but had a 2nd place finish at the back-end of last year. He has been showing up well consistemtly on leaderboards this season, he led here a few years ago after a 1st rd 64 and is from Arizona.

Ted Purdy
The Arizona resident has made a very solid start to his 2005 campaign and should post numerous top 10 finishes this year to add to his 4 last year. His course form is a little sketchy but he was 1 off the lead going into the final round here in 2000 and is a much better player now - he is also a much better player when the big guns are missing - this could be his week

Todd Fischer
Fischer played his best golf last year when the big guns were away - he was twice 3rd and finished in the top 10 on two other occasions - including an 8th place here. He has had a steady if unspectacular start to the year in tougher events and could well spring to life this week.

Johansson to bt Ljubicic
Johansson has had one of his going weeks in Rotterdam, a place he has played well in before. His returns today v Stepanek were impressive and if he plays like that in the semi final he will be hard to beat. Ljubicic was very fortunate to beat Srichaphan. He looks tired and his indoor run may be at an end

The German has been in the doldrums for some time but has taken a break and come back refreshed. He has been in impressive form in training and should be among the favourites if he can carry that form into the event.

Saulnier to bt Mirnyi
The Frenchman is coming off a career best week in San Jose and battled well to bt Kendrick in 1st round. Mirnyi is always dangerous indoors but his form this year is only fair and he has played many tiebreakers. This match is likely to boil down to a few points here and there. With that in mind this is a generous price.

Gaston Gaudio
We feel that winning at Roland Garros under amazing circumstances last year was the making of Gaudio. Since then he has played 5 clay events and appeared in all the finals. This year he has won both his clay court tournaments and it could be argued that he is the best claycourter in the world. The injury concerns to Coria and Ferrero determine we bet now

Mark Murless
We know - another golf bet! Murless has finished 2nd here for the last 2 years so has the requisite course form. He played poorly again this year when the larger stars were around but once they left he finished 5th last week, so the price is a little on the generous side.

Steve Flesch
We have spent most of the afternoon trying to figure out why he is such a big price and have come up with no answer. A winner in each of the last 2 seasons - both victories coming after top 10 finishes. He was 4th last time out and can boast a 5th place finish here in 2000 - the price is simply too big.

We tipped him last year as a Japanese player wishing to win this "home" sponsored event - he finished 2nd. He has already finished 3rd this year at the Sony (spot the link!) and at this price he has to be a bet.

Maarten Lafeber
We doubt this price will be beaten so it is probably best to take the it now. Lafeber has a very good long term record in Asia and was 7th here in 2001 and 2nd on his last visit to the area 2 weeks ago, he also had his best ever finish (by some distance) in Australia last time out - he really is a solid bet in the circumstances

Charles Warren
So far this season Warren is just about the best player on tour for getting the ball on to the green - he simply needs a few putts to fall. It could be on this course where he has a fair bit of experience to draw on. He is more than capable of holding his form together as he won back to back on the Nationwide Tour last year and is a previous winner of a pro-am event on the same tour. We think at the odds he is definitely worth a decent bet.

Clark has had a very impressive start to his season - winning the South African Open and then finishing runnr-up in the Bob Hope. He has a solid record in pro-ams and his last start here resulted in a 10th place finish. He also finished in the top 6 twice at the nearby Monterey event on the Nationwide Tour.

Twice a runner-up in his National Open in recent years albeit on different courses, Alker had a top 10 on his last tour start on the Nationwide Tour and is often capable of maintaining a good run of form - Hills are taking a risk at such a big price.

Stephen Gallagher
It is difficult to oppose Els this week but we are surprised to see such large odds on a player who has finished in the top 5 here in each of the last 2 years. He is now a more "complete" player - having won the Dunhill Links from a world class field and the books have over-reacted to last weeks poor effort as in each of the last 2 seasons he has missed his 2 previous cuts before starting here.

Starace made great progress last year yet still lost to Ramirez Hidalgo who by all records had a shocker of a year. The Spaniard has had clay practice this year having been in Chile for some time now. Starace comes straight from hardcourt action in Australia and New Zealand.
