Had a good look through the Ryder Cup after the first pairings were announced and I knew I would only want to bet a European player to be top points scorer and I would go for Ross Fisher at 33/1 paired with Poulter against Woods and Stricker on Friday morning. I think they will give them a really close run with Woods so poor and Fisher is a fine match player.

The Viking Classic sees the first event in the Fall Series and no doubt we are in for some real surprises over the next month. I was lucky enough to get a few big prices on Betfair when the market was put up - mainly for small amounts Wi 50, Pernice 340 (for a healthier £25), Triplett 300 and Wetterich 160. I decided to not get too much further involved except for round one bets but one player who might spring to life is Johnson Wagner. Course form is really important here and Wagner was 2nd on his only visit - interestingly the event he won at Houston he nearly won on the course the year before so he maybe worth a dabble at 200/1 ew
28 September 13.04
I have some idea who I want to back in the points scoring markets for the Ryder Cup but to be honest I would rather wait til Thursday when the pairings are announced and to see an accurate weather forecast. Back later today with thoughts on an outright pick for the Viking Classic

Some weeks are simply best forgotten and put down to experience - last week was certainly one of those but there is absolutely no point in dwelling on the fact so its time to move on to a new week and new ideas. Having gone to bed early and had a good nights sleep I am ready to face the enemy again.

Best of luck to Ferrie for tomorrows final round in Paris - here is the message sent to Select Service clients on Monday

Event Vivendi Trophy Outright
Selection Kenneth Ferrie
Minimum Price 80/1 Current best price 100/1 Ladbrokes,Victor Chandler,Tote,Betfred
Strength 2 pts ew
Occasionally you have to take a bull by the horns and this weeks bull is 17 stone Ferrie.
I will do a quick summary of reasons to back him
1. Course form - he won on the Challenge Tour round Joyenval back in 01 and 3 rounds will be played on that course this week (provided he makes the cut!)
2. Location form - apart from the above 2 of his best finishes have come at Le Golf National (2nd and 6th) also just outside Paris and his second best finish of the season was there as well (would have been a top 5 without a 9 at the last!)
3. Pro-am form - 2nd and 9th in the Dunhill Links on a multi course format
4. Incentive - his 5 year exemption for winning the European Open comes to an end this season and he needs to regain his card by  right - currently 110th so needs a good week
5. Current form - not that great but not that bad - seems to be playing one good/one bad - did shoot 64 in opening round of KLM to lie 2nd - best performance 3 months ago in Germany when 3rd and should have been top 5 in France - shows he can turn it on from nowhere.
25 September 10.06
I have been busy looking at the Ryder Cup - not usually an event I like to back in but with the multitide of markets available there is probably some value somewhere - though I am yet to find it!
Select Service clients will be busy cheering on Ken Ferrie in the Vivendi - he was the 2 pt ew bet I alluded to earlier this week and at 100/1 would be a nice payday
21 September 21.21
East Lake was revamped in 2008 with new greens and they certainly seemed to suit Villegas as he went on to win - that followed on from his 9th on his debut the year before, but that wan't his first visit to East Lake. In 2001 he played in the US Amateur at the venue and was 4th in the strokeplay rounds with a pair of 68's. He has been putting poorly but a return to his favoured Bermuda greens combined with an improvement in his ball striking in his last start should reap dividends this week.
21 September 10.34
Drew a blank last week and have been busy beavering away at this weeks events - Select clients already have a 2pt ew bet in the Vivendi Trophy - will be back later with some further thoughts on the limited field Tour Championships
18 September 14.16
Its nice to see some revised prices for the Boise Open heading into the weekends rounds and one player that catches my eye is the enigmatic Aussie Ewan Porter. Basically he either misses the cut badly or competes for a title, he has already won this season and was 3rd here last year and if his putter is on song (which it is this week) he can compete. He is currently on -8 and is 125/1 Stan James or 100/1 Sportingbet
18 September 09.16
For a change the Austrians have failed to perform in front of their home crowd and I am left kicking myself at this stage for not backing Parry who had played well on Pern designs before. One small bet for the weekend though - Gary Lockerbie 100/1 ew and win only on Betfair at 200+ - this is his time of year when he normally either does something to gain his card or keep it!
17 September 10.20
A quick post re next weeks Tour Championship from East Lake - as all books have priced up early the one price I don't think will last is the 33/1 Tote for Villegas - I had down more as a 20/25 shot - more a bit later
15 September 14.11
A quick update on the Select Service front - Total staked 184 points profit 110.48 ROI 60% and as its a quiet week if anyone wants a free trial for this weeks bets simply send me an email saying Free Trial in the subject to info@sportsbettingindex.com
May +23.75 staked 35
June -17.5 staked 57
July +120.73 staked 33
August -23.5 staked 45
September +7 staked 14
13 September 17.04
Rather stunned to see Ladbrokes go 50/1 Markus Brier - I would make him 33/1 max in this field at home - the price won't last
13 September 15.09
I had to look out the window to check it wasn't Winter already when I saw the golf line-up for the week - no PGA,Champions or LPGA and the Austrian Open is a shocking event on a new course. I can say without doubt that the players who will be backed this week will be the two market leaders and Brier on home soil (took the 60-65 on Betfair). Therefore there is every chance things will be quiet on the Blog this week as I will concentrate on the Select Service bets on the minor tours - though tbh this week that should include the European Tour lol!
13 September 00.24
No joy with the big outsiders as Kaymer romped to victory in Holland. I have been sat here all night watching slow updates from Utah as select clients had a 1 pt ew bet on 80/1 shot Vegas - sadly he has just come up short and tied for 2nd - but still a nice return
11 September 12.39
I have been following the early play from Holland today and have a feeling that the leaders are going to come back to the pack with the course playing tricky for those out in the afternoon so have had some smallish bets on those in the clubhouse or close - Oosthuizen 210, Coles 230, Huldahl 500,Cevaer 600,Levet 700 - be interesting to see how things pan out
10 September 21.33
One of those weeks where it will all come down to the outright bets and there is still a fair amount of interest. Villegas is ticking along not far behind whist as I type Vegas is top 10 in the Nationwide and I guess Chris Gane has an outside chance in Kazakhstan. Ineed a very good weekend from Bourdy in Holland but you never know - he is playing well just not making many birdies.
8 September 23.18
With the kids back to school this week have spent time catching up on various bits of work so haven't done a huge amount on the BMW Championship this week - tbh I quite fancy the chances of Woods and Kuchar bot the prices don't inspire. There is one player who has a strong association with the event - Villegas and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him at the top of the leaderboard and the 90 on Betfair is more than fair.
6 September 21.20
In the US they are still playing and this weeks PGA field will not be set til later tonight so I have spent most of the day going through the KLM for Select Service bets but also for anything to put on here. One player I think will be well backed this week is Gregory Bourdy who hasn't missed a cut since January. His 3 Euro tour wins have all come on quirky, tight courses and this weeks should suit him down to the ground. He will be buoyed by his performance at Whistling Straits where he was 15th at the cut and lto he was 3rd with a round to go at Gleneagles. His stats for that last performance read well as he was 1st for DA,6th for scrambling and 8th PPR. I do think the 66/1 represents very good value for money when you look at all the non winners priced about the same.
5 September 09.30
Kids up early today so grabbed a few minutes to update all the stats for the select service since I started it in May - total points staked 170, profit 103.48 ROI a very nice 60%. This can be broken down by month as follows
May +23.75 staked 35
June -17.5 staked 57
July +120.73 staked 33
August -23.5 staked 45
Highlights over the last months - Tomasulo WON 90/1, Ahn t1st 60/1 plus places at 200/1,150/1,125/1,150/1,150/1
All results here
4 September 21.54
Well that was probably a couple of hours wasted! At least Cink is still in contention and on the FBI front we went 2 from 2 today on a quiet front and also baged a 50/1 winner on the correct score mentions
4 September 15.05
I have spent the last few hours going over the Champions Tour where the field is split over 2 days between the easy Del Monte course and the difficult Pebble Beach. Tom Lehman looks interesting at the price he has been pushed out to 40/1 ew. He shot a 1 under at Pebble yesterday and tees off first on the easier course today. Last year he shot an identical 1st round score and then a 2nd round 65 and eventually wound up 3rd
2 September 19.28
Not a great day for my two picks on here in the Omega but the Select Service clients had a really good day with round one leader bets Ilonen finishing t2nd at 125/1 and Coles t4th at 200/1
1 September 20.56
It looks like the Deutsche Banke might get affected by Hurricane Earl - hopefully it will just be a tad breezy! I have therefore kept my interest pretty low key. I do think that Cink is a bit big on Betfair at 100/1 but the one player that catches my eye is Heath Slocum. He found some form last week when 9th at the Barclays and although in theory he doesn't have the length to compete at Boston but he has steadily improved every year until last when he m/c but I will let him off as he had won the week before. Quite happy to take the 150/1 win on Betfair and 22/1 the place.
